General IntroductionThe Language Education Center provides the following Japanese language education.

Training Course in Japanese Language
- This course is designed for international students who have never studied Japanese before. The course focuses on developing speaking and listening skills necessary for daily life and university life and aims to build a foundation for reading and writing skills. The course begins with Japanese pronunciation and hiragana, aiming to develop sufficient Japanese language skills for daily conversation by the end of the course. This course is open only to government-sponsored research students and teacher trainees recommended by their embassies and universities. Learn more

Training Course in Japanese Language and Japanese Culture
- This course is designed to enable students to achieve an advanced level of Japanese language proficiency (speaking, listening, reading, and writing), a thorough understanding of Japan (Japanese culture and current affairs), and the acquisition and application of basic research methods in their field of specialization. Special lectures on Japanese language, Japanese affairs, and Japanese culture are given entirely in Japanese for 30 weeks from October to the following September. Applicants must be government-sponsored international students (Japanese Language and Culture Trainees) recommended by their embassies and universities. They must be enrolled in programs with majors such as Japanese language, Japanese linguistics, Japanese language education, or Japanese studies (Japanese research) at their home universities. In addition, they should have a major in Japanese language-related fields, at least two years of Japanese language study, and Japanese language proficiency at the N2 level or above on the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. University-wide Japanese Language Program
- The University-wide Japanese Language Program is open to enrolled international students (graduate students, research students, etc.), visiting researchers, non-Japanese teachers, and anyone who wishes to study Japanese at Nagoya University. The program is designed to develop Japanese language skills necessary for both daily life and research activities at the university. Liberal Arts & Sciences Subjects; Language and Culture Courses (Japanese)
- This course is designed for international students enrolled in the undergraduate program to improve their Japanese language skills. Advanced Japanese language skills are required to earn the required university credits. This includes attending lectures, taking notes, participating in seminars, making presentations, writing reports and essays, and participating in discussions. In addition to providing basic training, the course aims to develop communication skills with Japanese students and faculty to deepen students' understanding of Japanese society and culture. Short-term Japanese Language Program (NUSTEP)
- The Nagoya University Short-Term Japanese Program (NUSTEP) is a two-week intensive Japanese language program. In addition to Japanese language study with excellent specialized instructors, the program offers a comprehensive curriculum that includes Japanese cultural experiences, visits to Japanese companies, and cultural exchanges with Nagoya University students to deepen students' understanding of Japanese culture and society.
